When they intensively practice a specific phoneme in a specific word position, it helps ‘re-wire’ their brains. This facilitates motor learning.

But what busy therapist has the time to hunt down a good list, much less make one? Luckily, we did it for you!

About The Apraxia Word Lists For Adults

This article has over 1,300 words and sentences!

Each word list was designed to help adults with acquired apraxia of speech make progress toward their speech therapy goals.

The apraxia word lists are organized by:

• Initial position monosyllabic, bisyllabic, and multisyllabic words
• Medial and final position words
• Initial, medial, and final position sentences

Please note that we use General American English dialect pronunciation. So if your patient has a different dialect, not every word list may be the right fit.

How To Use The Apraxia Word Lists

Follow the Principles of Motor Learning when using apraxia word lists:

1. Pre-practice
2. Large number of practice trials (50+ repetitions per target)
3. Intensive treatment (Practice 45+ minutes per session, several sessions per week, plus daily homework)
4. Target specific phonemes by position and length
5. Give occasional feedback
